“There are two issues that I feel particularly passionate about—closing the achievement gap and increasing the competitiveness of American students in a global economy. The achievement gap between socio-economic groups is real, unfair and shameful. However, in addition to that disparity, there is also the emerging realization that U.S. students in general are not prepared to be leaders in a global business environment. Therefore, this is an extraordinary time to be involved with urban public schools. Not only must the achievement gap be eradicated, but changes must also be made to enable these students to successfully compete with their global counterparts.”

Jacqueline Statum currently serves as project manager in the Office of Management Budget for Chicago Public Schools, a district with over 435,000 students in more than 600 schools. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Statum worked as a senior associate brand manager with The Hershey Company, where she led cross-functional teams to launch over a dozen new products for the company’s two largest brands—Hershey’s and Reese’s. Statum began her career as a manufacturing engineer with Ford Motor Company and Visteon Corporation, an automotive systems supplier. In this role, she served as the team leader for the implementation of lean manufacturing concepts to support the launch of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition interior components.  Statum participated in The Broad Residency in Urban Education Cohort 2007, serving her two-year Residency in Chicago Public Schools.
